We’ve had a fantastic couple of months leading into the Christmas and New Year break at the JCA, some of our most exciting events and notable achievements are outlined below!
First, our BMX duo of Sam Langford and Jenson Higham have been tearing it up across both state and national events. Sam was recognised at the Port Hedland junior sportsman event for the second year running and achieved 6th at the recent BMX nationals! Jenson became both the (8) boys state and national champion in the past two months – showing some amazing racing nouse on both occasions! I think he also impressed Jai Hindley at the recent EoY event.
On the road, we had highlights including the Midland 100, the Tour of Margaret River, NRS Tour of Tasmania and the beginning of the WA crit season. Charlotte Khorshid had a great day out at Midland, taking out a win in the u/13 race. The following week we had Lachlan competing with the Masters 1 team, gaining valuable multi day racing experience amongst a strong field. Finlay McRobbie stepped into our NRS 1 team and didn’t skip a beat finishing the teams classification 2nd overall at the conclusion of the tour! He again stepped up with Nick Bolt to complete the u/19 3 day Tour of Tasmania event mixed in with the open NRS 5 day tour – some massive steps for Fin here! He was also joined by former JCA athletes Savannah, Mackenzie and Matt who all performed very well over the full length tours.
Early season crit results are already flowing with multiple podiums and some impressive strides forward across the board. Special shout-out to Campbell McDowell (great to see him back and oh my how tall has he become over the last year) for completing some massive rides to and from recent crits – with our u/13 jet topping out at 153km a few weeks ago!
Congratulations also to Portia Vogel for taking out the XCO u15 state championship on the mountain bike in Nannup!
We also recently had our End of Year Function for the entire Cycling Development Foundation at Ambrose Estate. We were excited and grateful to be joined by Jai Hindley (and his family) for the evening. The juniors were able to chat and have photos with one of their hero’s (as were yours truly and other responsible adults who will remain nameless, you know who you are) , so thanks Jai for attending, much appreciated! We missed Jim and Lisa Bond at this event but know they were with us in spirit and enjoyed seeing the photographs following the event.
We also had some awards to give out for 2022:
Riders champion
???? @chloedalpasso
???? @finlay_mcrobbie
The ‘Cashie’ Riders excellence award (most improved)
???? Sam Castle
???? Lachlan O’Brien
Coaches award
???? Jenson Higham
Congratulations everyone!
So what an amazing year it has been and how lucky are we to have such an amazing group of athletes (and people) comprising the JCA, ably supported by sponsors and partners, volunteers, the JCA Committee, the CDF Board, all the Exercise Institute personnel with huge acknowledgment and thanks to Brad Hall (who gives his heart and soul to this program and we are very appreciative of all that he does) and very importantly the parents, siblings and friends of the riders. We could not do this without each and every one of you and I for one am very proud to be a part of this program, so thank you all.
