Our update from the Laverton Cycling Project in September!
Program coordinator, Sabine Bird, sent us this update following her monthly visit to Laverton.
“Spring has finally arrived, and the landscape has changed drastically since we went up last: Fields of yellow and green canola through the wheatbelt were followed by a “lush” outback with a variety of wildflowers.
The good vibes carried over to our sessions: We serviced a chirpy Cosmo Newberry group of kids in an extended session, visited the much smaller community of Mulga Queen, and gave the Laverton crew something to do after school. We felt the value we have in town, and it sparked a whole lot of talks between local stakeholders and ourselves to try and expand our program further within the community.
Our continued gratitude to our supporters. We are truly thankful to be able to do what we do.”
A note from Brad Hall, CDF Board Director:
“What began over 8 years ago as a 2-week pilot has become a year-round commitment to Laverton. In a town where connection matters deeply, cycling has proven to be more than just exercise – it’s a pathway to health, autonomy, and belonging. Our role is to support these connections, working alongside local groups to create lasting impact. Thank you to all who make this possible – your support helps sustain one of Australia’s longest-running remote cycling programs.”
