Cycling Development Foundation Recognised at 7NEWS WA Community Achievement Awards
The Cycling Development Foundation (CDF) has been recognised as a semi-finalist in the prestigious Insurance Commission of Western Australia Regional Safety Award, as part of the 2025 7NEWS WA Community Achievement Awards.
The Awards, hosted at the Pan Pacific Perth on Saturday, 25th October, celebrated the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations driving positive change across regional and rural Western Australia.
CDF was acknowledged for its ongoing work through the Laverton Cycling Project – our long-running community initiative aimed at improving youth wellbeing, road safety awareness, and healthy lifestyle habits in remote Western Australia.
“On behalf of the Cycling Development Foundation Board I was thrilled to accept the semi finalist award at the 7News Community Achievement Awards, a fantastic gala event to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by community groups in the regions.
The Laverton Cycling Project is now a regular monthly program delivered for the young people in a regional remote town to develop life skills, promoting a healthier lifestyle through specific cycle training, and importantly road safety training.
Notably, this program is strongly supported by our sponsors and volunteers, and has the support of the local stakeholders who are keen to see it continue, with the recent expansion to the surrounding Aboriginal communities of Cosmo Newberry and Mulga Queen, it is growing strength to strength.”
– Julie de Jong, CDF Chair
“We are immensely grateful to be acknowledged for our Laverton project at the 7News Awards night. The CDF has put in a great amount of work for years, only ever acted with genuinely good intentions, and continuously tried to expand it further to assist the broader Laverton community. We are grateful for the relationships we have built and look forward what the future holds. Everyone supporting the CDF, from the early days of inception of this project to current active supporters, deserves this recognition.”
– Sabine Bird, Laverton Cycling Project Coordinator
The Laverton Cycling Project (LCP) is an established long-term, sustainable, community-governed cycling program for all community members in the Laverton shire and associated very remote areas, particularly for Indigenous youth.
Since 2017, CDF has provided multiple successful initiatives, including access to education, fitness, well-being testing, specific cycle training, bike maintenance skills, road safety training, and participation in events relevant to cycling.
