Our update from the Laverton Cycling Project in January!
Program coordinator, Sabine Bird, sent us this update following her monthly visit to Laverton.
“Another year, another iteration of the Laverton Cycling Project. We are embarking on our 5th year of monthly visits and our 9th year of involvement with the community overall! And what a journey it has been so far… We are looking forward to more adventures and challenges in 2026.
Last week, we started off with an easier visit to Laverton whilst the vast majority of children were still out of town. However, we found a few kids to go bike riding with, and enjoy some time at the pool. In an exciting update, we also have a new adult with a liking for bike riding in our midst — something we will try and promote more this year!”
With the school holidays still underway, January provided a quieter start to the year, but it was a valuable opportunity to reconnect with the community and set the tone for the months ahead. Even with smaller numbers, Sabine made the most of her time through bike riding, swimming, and continuing to strengthen relationships that underpin the program’s long-term impact.
The emergence of adult interest in cycling is an exciting development for 2026, opening the door to broader community engagement and reinforcing the program’s role in promoting active lifestyles across all ages.
A note from Brad Hall, CDF Board Director:
“Each year the Laverton Cycling Project continues to evolve, but its core purpose remains the same – building connection, confidence, and opportunity through cycling. Seeing the program enter its fifth year of monthly visits, and ninth year overall is a testament to the commitment of our team and the strength of the relationships within the community. We’re excited to continue growing the program in 2026 and to explore new ways of engaging both young people and adults alike. Thank you to everyone who continues to support this important initiative.”
