PERTH-LAVERTON CYCLING PROJECT MAJOR PARTNER – SMEC

The Cycling Development Foundation and Laverton Cycling Project are proud to welcome SMEC as a major partner for the 2021 Perth-Laverton Cycling Classic.

This is the third year SMEC have supported our cause.

Mary Tennant, Chairperson of the CDF, commented:

“The strength of the Cycling Development Foundation and the Laverton Cycling Project is based on the generous support we get from our partners. We appreciate the ongoing support from SMEC. Their commitment from the early stages of the project has allowed us to build from a modest beginning. The introduction of SMEC as a partner enhances our commitment to regional communities and we hope this will open new doors for the CDF in our endeavour to expand our program. “

SMEC’s Perth area Manager, Barry Wilson, spoke about what the program means to the company:

“At SMEC we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to positively impact the individuals and communities we work with.  Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework reflects our values and how we aim to conduct our daily work, with our three focus areas being People, Community, and Sustainability and Environment. We are committed to operating in a manner which promotes community engagement and improving lives and communities around the world.

As part of our ongoing CSR program and continued relationship with The Cycling Development Foundation our SMEC cycling enthusiasts were keen to get onboard and join the initial Project Recycle supporting the Cycling Development Foundation’s Perth to Laverton’s annual charity ride – for the Laverton Cycling project (LCP). The LCP aims to connect at risk young people in the community with a targeted small group program to build resilience, self-confidence and problem solving skills, whilst building positive engagement opportunities.   An 8 day ride, with 1100kms on the saddle, followed by 2 days of community youth engagement in Laverton and delivery of 25-30 second-hand, refurbished bikes, we are now in our 3rd year of supporting this great initiative.”
