ROUND TWO OF THE PROVELO SUPER LEAGUE

The CDF Racing Program headed to Victoria for The Melbourne to Warrnambool last week, hear from a couple of our riders below, after another tough edition of Australia’s longest & most historic road race!

We chatted with Savannah Coupland after her 9th place finish at the Lochard Energy Warrnambool Women’s Classic:

How did your teammates assist you to be able to fight for a top ten at the Warny this year?

“The team worked collectively to build a position in the front of the peloton. Once the winning break went, my teammates worked hard to try to maintain/pull the break back. This allowed me to stay fresher in the peloton, where I was able to use my energy to chase attacks. The girls put everything out on the line so that I was able to chase those last few attacks and get to the finish line in what was left of the front group.

The last 10km was the hardest, chasing all the attacks. If my teammates had not helped me earlier on in the race, then gaining a position like 9th might not have been achievable.”

Where does this result sit in terms of your previous performances at National racing level?

“This was a great result compared to some of my other results. I’m still building my fitness up from a month of sickness over Christmas, so my results keep improving as I go on this year. Warny is the hardest one-day race on the calendar, so it is a massive achievement even to finish with the peloton.

The harsh conditions of crosswinds made this even harder to accomplish. I have some pretty good results from last year, like 4th at the Oceania Road Race and 4th at the Sapphire Tour, both of which I feel are pretty similar to 9th at Warny.”

Brenton Ryan also had a great ride to finish 20th!

What were your process goals for the Warny and how did this result in you making one of the front echelons and eventually finishing 20th?

“My main process goal coming into the Warny was to ensure I improved on my positioning coming into the key parts of the race in the finale. I was able to successfully achieve this and led the peloton over the final KOM climb out of Port Campbell and made the final 30 rider selection with 50 kilometers remaining.

The whole team rode well throughout the day considering the circumstances showing promising signs for the remaining Provelo races.”
