Our update from the Laverton Cycling Project in March!
Program coordinator, Sabine Bird, sent us this update following her monthly visit to Laverton and nearby sparsely inhabited areas of Cosmo Newbery and Mulga Queen.
“We are already through the first quarter of the year and had a successful start. On our recent trip to Mulga Queen, we saw half a dozen very excited young kids. The youngest of whom did his first ever bike ride all by himself. We were stoked to have played a little role in it and saw it developing gradually over a period of visits.
In Cosmo Newberry, we were also greeted by enthusiastic kids that made sure we knew how much our visits and the bike rides are appreciated! We may have also discovered a talent on the bike in that community….
Laverton has seen a shortage of kids this time around as families left to attend various funerals outside of town. The kids that were there engaged with us at School during science class, during some bike riding sessions in the afternoons and also at boxing class and at the pool. Wild weather did not deter these young ones, and the rain quickly turned their town into an exciting playground.
Another successful trip for us, and the heads are flowing with ideas for the future as we are building step by step.”
