The Butterfly Ride 2016
Sunday, 9 October 7am Perth CBD
Butterfly Ride spokesperson Toni Burbridge reveals details about her long struggles with an eating disorder and body image issues.
OMG how haven’t I been affected??
“Firstly, what’s with lycra only being available in small sizes? Don’t manufacturers know that lycra is great to wick sweat and let our lady parts feel comfy on a bike for bigger women too?
“It is only recently I’ve been able to look at myself in a mirror and smile.”
“I have several affirmations which help change my mindset when I’m not feeling great about my body image. “All I need is within my now”, “its not easy but its worth it” “this is my life, this is my time” and “ I say YES to adventures, laughter, dreams and fun” and most of all “Never Ever Give UP”.
“My friends remind me when I’m being a negative nelly about my weight and fitness. They help point out the positives – especially if I’m at a mountain bike race they will say, you are lapping everyone sitting on the couch. This is so true. So I worked out that a lot of our perceptions about ourselves isn’t how other people see us.”
Toni hopes the event will initiate some discussion about disordered eating and important funds are raised for a national support organisation so that people who need support can find the courage to seek it.
