The Cycling Development Foundation (CDF) aims to engage with the community through sporting leaders that are part of our development pathway. We aim to deliver on companies ‘corporate social responsibility’ needs.

We actively seek to engage with like-minded charities and community groups to offer services for at-need groups and individuals within WA. All of these activities are brought about through funding from our valued partners, including: Veris Ltd, Aurecon, Giant Bicycles Australia, Liv Cycling Australia, Pedal Mafia Clothing, Vault Cycle Services, Exercise Institute, & Preterm Birth Prevention Centre

New and Expanded Service Offerings to the Community:

  • CDF Project Recycle: Recently the CDF have partnered with Hope 2 Day, a not for profit organisation seeking to “Link Young People with Opportunities”. This program teaches young people how to dismantle and re-build a bike, whilst receiving mentoring over 10 weeks from our female and male sporting leaders around ‘practical skills’ and ‘life skills’. This program is aimed at young people from high-risk groups or areas. Group sizing will be six to twelve young people between 10 and 16 years of age who will be mentored over a 10 to 20 week period. This initiative will include metropolitan and regional sites. We are currently in preliminary discussions to offer this initiative in Perth, Kalgoorlie and talking with prominent regional resource businesses for assistance in this area.
Outcomes from the recent ‘Build a Bike Courses’ include:

    • 88% of participants completed the course with a 90% attendance rate
    • 100% of participants completed a bike for charity
    • 33% of participants wanted to complete a second bike for charity
    • 30% of participants want to return as a mentor for future programs
    • 30% of participants are now actively engaged in community or mental health services
  • Community Charity Rides: to expand on our women’s specific ‘Liv Rides for Women’, the CDF is exploring charity ride offerings and opportunities that raise awareness for specific community interests. We envisage several additional charity rides each year from metropolitan and regional areas to assist in engaging at risk people across WA and enhancing community awareness of these important issues. Presently our Women’s only Liv Rides are project managed with our younger female athletes from within our pathway.
  • Monthly ride to work day: This CDF program encourages individuals to ride to work (Perth City) by providing complimentary coffee and a free bike review by the qualified mechanics from Vault Cycle Services. This monthly event occurs on the city side of the Narrows Bridge and continues to be hugely successful. This event is project managed by the young sporting leaders within our development pathway as part of their professional development as well as community awareness.
